Rhodamine 6G (R6G), a member of the rhodamine series of xanthene dyes, has long been employed for the labeling of oligonucleotides and DNA. Available in both 5- and 6-isomeric forms like other xanthenes.
Renowned for its exceptional brightness, R6G serves as a quantum yield standard with a yield of 0.95. The dye exhibits solubility in organic solvents such as DMF or DMSO, which can be utilized as co-solvents in labeling reactions.
